Welcome to Hamson Handcrafted. My name is Sheena, and I am the founder and sole proprietor of this small, one-woman leather goods company. Based in my workshop in South East London, I create high-quality leather goods using traditional handcrafting techniques.

Before starting the Hamson brand in 2019, I spent over 20 years in luxury leather goods manufacturing, working alongside talented leatherworkers from all over the world. My passion for leather craftsmanship began at an early age, and I honed my skills through years of practice and dedication.

The Hamson brand was born out of a desire to create timeless, minimalist leather accessories using only vegetable-tanned leather. From wallets and belts to bags and accessories, all my products are made with the utmost care and attention to detail.

I am committed to creating sustainable products with minimal environmental impact. That's why I use only vegetable-tanned leather and package all sold items using recycled and recyclable materials.

Thank you for visiting my website and supporting my small business.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss a custom order. I am always delighted to collaborate with customers to create unique, personalised leather accessories that perfectly suit their needs and tastes.

Materials

Pictured are shoulders of oak bark tanned leather from J & FJ Baker tannery based in Devon. It is Britain’s only remaining traditional oak bark tannery.

I use J & FJ Baker oak bark leather for all my hand made Brompton accessories.

Oak bark tannage is a long, gentle process that protects the natural fibres of the hide unlike modern tanning methods.
The tannery sources hides locally as a by-product of the meat industry and they are tanned using only oak bark and water for minimal environmental impact.
It takes 14 months to produce each piece of leather using this age old technique, making the leather stronger and more durable over time.

All the leather I use is full grain leather, not corrected grain, meaning that there will be natural blemishes and stretch marks which add a lovely unique quality to the product.

Process

I create all of my products in my workshop in South London.

I use a combination of traditional and modern leatherworking techniques. Many of the products are handstitched using the traditional saddlers harness stitch and all products are finished with maximum attention to detail.

All my products are made to order and as such the delivery times will vary depending on the product.

Bespoke

I run a bespoke service and would be happy to hear about your project.

Please send a message via the contact page or email and I will respond as soon as I can.

oak Bark leather care

‘J. & F.J Baker & Co. Ltd’s leathers are Oak Bark tanned for strength and durability. When they require cleaning or ‘feeding’ we recommend wiping with a damp cloth, applying saddle soap and buffing with a cloth or soft brush, before leaving to dry naturally. Please do not use oil based leather feeds as these displace the greases in the leather and cause the fibres to dry out and degrade.

When you receive your leather it will likely have a whiteish residue of dubbin on the grain side. This can be removed with a soft bristled brush such as used to shine shoes. ‘

personalisation

The personalisation option adds a truly bespoke finish to a product, making it uniquely yours.

I set the brass type into the embossing machine using spacers in between each letter to ensure the printed result is balanced and not jumbled.

The type is then heated up and applied to the leather with gold or silver foil or no foil which is known as ‘blind’.

You can choose your text or numbers and colour of foil as you fill out the form when you check out.
